Our History

MAPS was founded in 1995 by a team of experienced professionals with legal and insurance backgrounds. In 1997 founder member James Tattersall became Managing Director and sole shareholder in 2001. James started his career in 1989 at a Southport firm of solicitors before joining a leading North West based firm of lawyers in 1992. His accountancy trained wife Deirdre Tattersall joined the board as Financial Director in 2001 and soon after became a shareholder and more recently Sales & Finance Director.

The company has grown organically by reinvestment of profits without any external funding, loans or overdrafts. James has steered MAPS through several difficult and uncertain periods of market change and regulation picking up along the way awards and significant accreditations such as Investors in People (Silver Award), ISO9001 and Customer First.

Together James and Deirdre have led the company to success and recognition as a leading independent provider of legal expenses insurance to private insurance brokers and the public sector. The firm is run on a very similar model to a law firm with James overseeing our friendly in-house claims team and Deirdre leading our sales and finance teams.
